CMC75 Moments: 1985 Volleyball Uses 20-Win Improvement to Qualify for Postseason

CLAREMONT, Calif. - CMS Volleyball is known now as a national power, but the first hint of the program’s potential came with a big turnaround in the 1985 campaign. After a 4-17 season in 1984, the Athenas put everything together in 1985, improving their win total by 20 to come away with a 24-10 final record and capturing the first NCAA Tournament bid in program history, while also earning a No. 10 ranking in the nation.

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The senior class of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team had an enormous impact during their careers. The Class of 2021 contributed to the first women's team national championship in CMS history as first-years in 2017, and added two more SCIAC Championships as sophomores and juniors.

Season in Review: 2019 CMS Volleyball

When we last wrote, we recounted the successes of the 2018 season by a senior-less squad that rose to set numerous team records.  In 2019, where the four juniors became the senior leadership, we are proud to say the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas volleyball team suffered no lapses as the team equaled its own record for winning percentage set just a year before by winning 27 matches for the second year in a row.  “In a row” are words you will see over and over in recapping the 2019 season.

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After walking on to the CMS volleyball team midway through her career as a Harvey Mudd physics major, Jenny Smith earned herself a national championship ring as one of the emotional leaders of the Athenas title squad.
