Bell, McGovern, Sawyer Earn Academic All-District Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Brenna Bell, Georgia McGovern and Audrey Sawyer earned spots on the Division III Women's Volleyball Academic All-District team from the College Sports Communicators, the organization announced.

Bell was a second-team Academic All-America last year, when she set a school record for hitting percentage in a season (.404) and was a first-team All-America selection from the AVCA. She added to her accolades this year with second-team All-SCIAC honors, while ranking second on the team in kills with 237.

McGovern was a first-team All-American this year, while ranking second in the nation in assists per set and finishing with the second-highest single-season total in school history with 1195. She was the AVCA West Region Player of the Year, the Most Outstanding Player of both the SCIAC Postseason Tournament and the NCAA Regionals, and made the all-tournament team at the NCAA Division III Championships, which CMS hosted.

Sawyer was a third-team All-American this season as she continued on her trajectory to shatter the CMS record for hitting percentage in a career. She hit .390 this season with 203 kills and has three of the top five hitting percentages in program history, while her .388 percentage over the first three years is 65 points ahead of the previous CMS record, held by Melanie Moore (2017-19).

CMS finished the season with a 26-6 record, and reached the national semifinals for the second time in the last three seasons, advancing through the NCAA Regionals at MIT and winning a quarterfinal match at home over UW-Oshkosh before falling to Hope in five in the semifinals.

All three Athenas will advance to the ballot for Academic All-America honors, which will be released in early January.
