Natalie Bitetti Sets CMS 1500-Meter Record at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team was in action in two different places this weekend, with the distance runners at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, and the rest of the team at the UC San Diego Invitational, with Natalie Bitetti's CMS-record 4:26.59 in the 1500 meters at Pomona-Pitzer highlighting the weekend's action.
Bitetti's time just edged out the previous CMS record of 4:26.72, which was set by Bryn McKillop in 2018, and passed her own personal best of 4:33.69 set in 2022. She was second in the race, and first among collegiate competitors, with only Casey Monoszalay of the Valor Track Club finishing ahead of her in 4:22.76.
Riley Capuano was in third in 4:33.32, which took over a second off of her previous best of 4:34.71 and has her in eighth in CMS history. Sara Wexler (4:41.90), Angie Gushue (4:41.96) and Elle Marsyla (4:42.49) finished sixth, seventh, and eighth respectively. Revere Schmidt competed in the steeplechase and earned a third-place finish in 11:39.00.
At UC San Diego, Katelyn Sewell was 11th in the discus out of 33 competitors from all divisions on Friday, with a throw of 127 feet, seven inches (38.90 meters). On Saturday, Madeline Seifert came in eighth in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.64 meters (11'11.25").
CMS will be back in action next weekend when it competes at the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific and at the third SCIAC Multi-Dual, hosted by Whittier.
