Four new members were inducted into the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics Alumni Association Hall of Fame at the 2018 Hall of Fame Banquet and induction ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 10. The ceremony was held at Claremont McKenna College's Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, marking the 28th Hall of Fame induction class at CMS.

2017-18 turned out to be a season of two stories as the team struggled early to find itself and then went on a run that never had been seen before in the 60-year history of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags Basketball. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics is ranked third in the 2017-18 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the program’s highest finish ever. This is the second-straight year that CMS has finished in the top-5 in the country.

For the 10th-straight year and 30th time in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletic Department claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Combined All-Sports Trophy. The Athenas earned 94 points this season and won the All-Sports Trophy on the women’s side by a 19-point margin, claiming their eighth-straight and 23rd overall. The Stags finished third in the standings on the men’s side with 65.5 points. Pomona-Pitzer won the men’s All-Sports Trophy.

Over the weekend, Michael Scarlett (CMC) added to his list of postseason accolades with a First Team All-American honor by D3Hoops.com. The accolade comes on the heels of a Third Team All-American nod by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) just last week. Earlier this month, Scarlett was named First Team All-District by the NABC and First Team All-Region by D3Hoops.com.

Michael Scarlett (CMC) earned a pair of season-end accolades this week with the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) and d3hoops.com naming him First Team All-West. Scarlett was named First Team All-District by the NABC on Monday before earning First Team All-Region by d3hoops.com on Tuesday.

Stags Push No. 1 Blues to OT, Tourney Run Ends in Second Round

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team and the No. 1 Whitman Blues were feeling a little bit of déjà vu on Saturday night. For the second year in a row, the CMS Stags and Whitman Blues squared off on the Blues’ home floor in the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. While Saturday’s game had its own twists and turns, the ending felt eerily similar as well. The Blues narrowly edged the Stags, 89-84 to escape with a five-point victory and advance to the Sweet Sixteen. At the same time, the Stags’ season ends in heartbreaking fashion for the second-straight year in Walla Walla, Wash.

Survive and Advance: Stags Top No. 2 Whitworth, Move to NCAA Second Round

It was a back-and-forth, heavyweight battle that's normally reserved for much later in the tournament. Unfortunately for one team, Friday's thriller was the end of the line in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. For the second year in a row, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team squared off with the No. 2 Whitworth Pirates in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament. The Stags and Pirates traded the lead 16 times in the contest with neither team holding more than a seven-point advantage, but when the dust settled after 40 minutes it was the Stags who earned the hard-fought 83-82 victory and a trip to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. CMS will move on to face the No. 1 Whitman Blues on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team is making their second-straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and 14th appearance in program history. Just like last season, this year's journey begins in Walla Walla, Wash. on the campus of Whitman University with one of the toughest pods in the country. The grouping features three of the same teams as last year's First and Second Round including the No. 1 Whitman Blues and the No. 2 Whitworth Pirates. Along with the Stags, the Schreiner Pirates round out the group of four teams in Walla Walla for the weekend.

Stags Begin NCAA Tournament Journey in Walla Walla

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) released today the bracket for the Division III Men's Basketball Tournament, and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags were selected to travel to Walla Walla, Wash. for the opening weekend. The Stags will oppose Whitworth University in the First Round in a rematch of the Stags’ 2017 First Round match. The Stags won last year’s meeting 78-73. Squaring off in the other game in Walla Walla, is the host Whitman College playing Schreiner University. The winners from Friday’s games will play in the Second Round on Saturday.

Stags Score Emphatic Victory in SCIAC Tourney, Punch Ticket To NCAAs

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team punched their ticket to the NCAA Tournament with an emphatic 86-62 victory over the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens in the SCIAC Tournament Final. Scott Lynds (CMC) and Michael Scarlett led the way for the Stags with 51 combined points on the night. The duo went 9-18 from downtown as the Stags shot 46.2% (12-26) from beyond the arc in the game. Lynds was named the Tournament’s MVP after a 29-point performance. He also collected two rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the big victory.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team enters the 2018 SCIAC Tournament as the top seed and winners of their last 14 games. CMS claimed their 20th SCIAC Championship this season with a conference record of 15-1. The Stags will tip-off the SCIAC Semifinals on Friday night against the No. 4 Chapman Panthers. The Stags and Panthers will play in Roberts Pavilion on 7:00 p.m. The winner of Friday’s semifinal between CMS and Chapman will square off with the winner of No. 2 Occidental vs. No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday night. Should the Stags win on Friday, CMS will host on Saturday, thanks to their top-seed status.

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) released their All-Conference men’s basketball teams on Friday morning. The two teams, made up of 13 student-athletes, included a trio of Stags seniors. Michael Scarlett (CMC) headlined the awards season for the Stags, earning his second-straight David Wells Play of the Year honor. Scarlett was also recognition on the First Team alongside teammate Kendrick Morris (CMC). Fellow senior Scott Lynds (CMC) earned his first All-SCIAC honor with a Second Team nod. In addition to the trio named All-SCIAC, head coach Ken Scalmanini and his staff repeated as SCIAC Coaching Staff of the Year.

Stags Top Panthers, Set-Up Sixth Street Clash for SCIAC Tourney Title

The top-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's basketball team is headed to the SCIAC Tournament Championship Game after defeating the No. 4-seeded Chapman Panthers on Friday night 83-72. The Stags will face their rivals from across the street, the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens, on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. in Roberts Pavilion in a battle for the SCIAC Tournament Title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Saturday’s meeting will be the fifth time the two rivals have met in the Tournament Championship game. CMS will be making their ninth trip to the title game in its 11-year existence.

Kirsch Brothers Lead Stags Over Beavers In Regular Season Finale

On Tuesday night, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men’s basketball team wrapped up the regular season with a 75-68 victory over the Caltech Beavers. With the 2017-18 SCIAC Championship and top-seed in the SCIAC Tournament already locked up, the Stags used the game to showcase their depth and the talent of their bench. Brothers, Maxwell Kirsch (CMC) and Mitchell Kirsch (CMC) led the way for the Stags with 17 and 16 points respectively. Mitchell finished just shy of a double-double, grabbing nine rebounds to go along with his 16 points. Maxwell grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists. The brothers combined to go a perfect 15-15 from the free throw line.
