Schils and Wang Win NCAA Doubles Championship

Gui Schils (JR, Shaker Heights, OH) and Larry Wang (JR, Orange) won the NCAA Division III Men's Doubles Championship on Sunday with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Andy Bryan/Charlie Paukert of Gustavus Adolphus. This is the first title for both and CMS' fifth doubles championship.

The men's tennis team finished third at the NCAA Division III Championships with a hard fought 5-4 win over Middlebury College. CMS (27-8) earned the 10th top three finish in their history.

CMS advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA Division III Men's Tennis Championships with a 5-2 win over Williams College. CMS avenged a 7-2 loss earlier this season to Williams and improved to 26-7 overall.
Hough Named SCIAC Athlete Of The Week

Ben Hough (SR, Spokane, WA) has been selected SCIAC Athlete of the Week for the week of April 28 - May 3. He went 4-0 in his singles and doubles matches to help the Stags advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships.

CMS Men's Tennis advanced to the NCAA Division III Team Championship Quarterfinals on Sunday with a thrilling 5-3 victory over #1 ranked UC Santa Cruz. Senior captain Ben Hough (Spokane, WA) stayed perfect on the weekend by earning two more wins, and the Stags won the final match at CMS' Marks and Smith Courts in dramatic fashion.

CMS Mens Tennis advanced to the third round of the NCAA Team Championship with a 5-1 win over Whitman College at CMS Marks and Smith Courts on Saturday. The Stags were paced by senior captain Ben Hough (Spokane, WA [pictured right]), who had wins at #2 doubles and #6 singles.
Stags To Host Second And Third Rounds Of NCAA Championships

The SCIAC Champion Stags have been selected to host the second and third round of the NCAA Championships this weekend. Two matches will take place on Saturday with the winners facing off on Sunday. All three matches will take place at the Smith and Marks Courts on the CMC campus.

CMS Mens Tennis earned its third straight outright SCIAC title on Saturday, with an 8-1 win over Redlands in the championship match. The Stags extended their conference unbeaten streak to 31 dual matches with the title and earn an automatic qualification spot in the NCAA tournament.

In what will be remembered as one of the most dramatic wins in CMS Mens Tennis history, the Stags came back from a 4-0 deficit against #1 ranked UC Santa Cruz and pulled off the impossible, winning five straight singles matches to earn a 5-4 victory and re-establish themselves as one of the top teams in Division III mens tennis.

The Stags were 5-4 winners over the Bulldogs, led by junior Lawrence Wang (Orange, CA [pictured]) and sophomore Mike Starr (San Ramon, CA), who both had two wins on the day.

CMS Stags Tennis made it back-to-back doubleheader sweeps by beating Occidental and Chapman by 9-0 scores on Saturday. Junior Drew Sabater (Claremont, CA [pictured]) won his second singles match in as many days and improved his record to 13-4 on the season. Sabater played #2 singles on Saturday, after playing at #5 on Friday.

CMS Stags Tennis returned to its home courts on Friday and notched a 9-0 SCIAC win against La Verne and a thrilling 5-4 win over 14th ranked NAIA opponent Concordia University. The win over La Verne was the Stags 26th consecutive in conference.

CMS Stags Tennis concluded its three match road trip in Texas with a 7-2 loss to Washington University (St. Louis) on Sunday. The Stags completed a week where they played five top ten teams in six days. CMS began the week in Claremont, with wins over #5 Middlebury and #1 Gustavus Adolphus, and then traveled to San Antonio and Austin, where they fell to #8 Trinity University, #9 Williams, and #3 Wash U.
#9 Williams Outlasts Stags in Austin

#9 Williams College defeated the Stags 7-2 at the Austin Tennis Academy on Saturday. It was the second consecutive loss for CMS against a top ten nationally ranked foe, and match two of a three match road trip in Texas. The Stags suffered their first doubles sweep since the opening day of the season, despite being up a service break at positions one and three.
