Four new members were inducted into the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics Alumni Association Hall of Fame at the 2018 Hall of Fame Banquet and induction ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 10. The ceremony was held at Claremont McKenna College's Marian Miner Cook Athenaeum, marking the 28th Hall of Fame induction class at CMS.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics is ranked third in the 2017-18 Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup standings, the program’s highest finish ever. This is the second-straight year that CMS has finished in the top-5 in the country.

For the 10th-straight year and 30th time in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletic Department claimed the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Combined All-Sports Trophy. The Athenas earned 94 points this season and won the All-Sports Trophy on the women’s side by a 19-point margin, claiming their eighth-straight and 23rd overall. The Stags finished third in the standings on the men’s side with 65.5 points. Pomona-Pitzer won the men’s All-Sports Trophy.

On Tuesday morning the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) announced their All-Conference teams. Among the student-athletes honored were seven Stags. Chris Cziesla (CMC), Brian Wahl (CMC), Mitchell Allan (CMC), and Jordan Leonard (CMC) earned First Team honors while Trey Smith (CMC), Brendan MacDonald (CMC), and Victor Bunce (CMC) were named Second Team.

Overtime Nail Biter Favors Sagehens in Battle for Sixth Street

The 60th edition of the Sixth Street Rivalry was a thrilling one on Saturday afternoon. The Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens converted a walk-off two-point attempt in overtime to win the game 29-28 over the Stags. The Stags took their first lead of the day when Chris Czielsa (CMC) hauled in a 25-yard touchdown pass on just the second play of overtime. Needing a touchdown to continue the game, Pomona-Pitzer faced a fourth and seven from the 22-yard line. Karter Odermann escaped pressure and heaved a pass to the end zone. The pass bounced off the helmet of a Stag defender and into the waiting arms of Kevin Masini for the score.

Stags Topped by Panthers on Road

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team fell to the Chapman Panthers 48-38 on Saturday night. The Stags trailed 28-7 late in the first-half, but battled back and cut the margin to just four at 28-24 in the third quarter after a pair of touchdown runs from Spencer Sheff (CMC) and Garrett Cheadle (HMC) and a 43-yard field goal from Mitchell Allan (CMC). CMS could not keep pace with the high-scoring Chapman attack and despite Cheadle punching in a one-yard touchdown late, the Stags fell 48-38.

Stags Spoil Leopards' Homecoming, Edge La Verne on Road

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team stopped a two-game slide on Saturday evening with a 17-7 victory over the La Verne on the Leopards' Homecoming. The victory improves the Stags to 4-3 on the season and bumps them to 2-2 in the SCIAC. CMS attempted just 14 passes in the game, but used an effective ground attack and strong defense to earn the 10-point victory.

Bulldogs Race Past Stags Late

October 21, 2017

Three different Stags scored touchdowns on Saturday afternoon, but the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team was not able to hold on against the Redlands Bulldogs, falling 42-25. The Stags held a 17-12 lead at the half and the game was tied 25-25 at the end of the third quarter, but the Bulldogs scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to claim the victory.

Kingsmen Hand Stags First SCIAC Loss of Season

Cal Lutheran handed the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team their first SCIAC loss of the season on Saturday afternoon by a 42-20 final. The Stags held a 10-7 lead early in the second-quarter, but the Kingsmen found success through the air with Adam Friederichsen tossing three of his four touchdown passes in the second-quarter and Cal Lutheran took a 28-13 lead at the half.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team continued their strong start to SCIAC play by shutting out the Occidental Tigers 37-0 on Saturday afternoon. The Stags overwhelmed the Tigers on both sides of the ball, collecting 459 yards on offense and limiting the Tigers to just 113 yards. The CMS defense allowed Occidental to gain just six first downs and collected a half dozen sacks in the contest.

Late Pick Seals Close Tilt at Whittier

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team escaped Whittier on Saturday night with a 41-34 victory over the Poets. Whittier scored 17 fourth-quarter points and were driving in the final two minutes looking for the game-tying score, but Cade Moffatt (CMC) snagged his first career interception with 1:23 remaining to seal the victory for the Stags.

On a beautiful Saturday afternoon the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team hosted the Washington and Lee Generals in Zinda Field. The Generals used a methodical ground attack to build a 24-0 lead. The Stags battled back scoring the next 14 points, but it was not enough as the Generals held on for the 24-14 victory.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps football team opened the 2017 season with a 37-16 victory over the Lewis and Clark Pioneers on Saturday afternoon. The Stags’ defense held the Pioneers to just two points for the first 55 minutes before Lewis and Clark pushed two late touchdowns through.

D3football.com announced the 2017 preseason All-American Team today, listing Claremont-Mudd-Scripps defensive back Victor Bunce (CMC ’18) on the First Team Defense list.
