CMS Women's Water Polo Pulls Away Early to Defeat Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. - Valerie Wraith had four goals and two assists as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team led by as many as 12 goals before defeating Caltech 18-11 on Wednesday evening at Braun Pool.

With the win, CMS improves to 16-8 overall and 9-1 in the SCIAC, while Caltech slips to 1-17 overall and 0-10 in league play with the loss. 

The Athenas led 7-1 after the first quarter, took a 12-3 lead into the half, and built it up to 15-3 in the third, before the Beavers closed to within 18-11 by game's end. 

Five different Athenas had two goals in support of Wraith, with Olivia Cairns, Grace Clark, Cooper McKenna, Elise Power and Caitlin Muñoz all tallying twice. Munoz added two assists and three steals, while Clark had four steals. Isabel Del Villar had a strong stat line as well, with a goal, three assists and three steals. 

Mason Spencer started and had five saves and two steals to get the win in goal for CMS, while Natalie Stearns had four saves and Angelina Tsa added one. 

CMS will be back in action when it hosts Chapman on Saturday for an 11 a.m. contest.
