
CMS Women's Water Polo Rolls to Two Wins at Claremont Convergence
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team closed out the Claremont Convergence with a dominant performance at its home pool, defeating Santa Clara 11-4 and CSU Monterey Bay 21-8 on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.
The Athenas move to 8-6 on the year with the two wins, as well as 3-1 at the Convergence, with the one loss coming to USC on Friday.
Olivia Cairns and Grace Clark each had two goals against Santa Clara, while Caitlin Muñoz had a goal and three assists.
Ka'imi Duncklee gave CMS a 3-1 lead at the end of the first quarter, and after Santa Clara cut it to 3-2, Clark had two goals around one from Valerie Wraith to make it a 6-2 lead. Muñoz answered a Santa Clara goal, and Elise Power finished off the half with another tally to make it 8-3.
In the nightcap against CSU Monterey Bay, Wraith scored five times, Isabel Del Villar and Cooper McKenna scored four times, and Mia Adsen added a hat trick. The score was just 6-3 after the first quarter, but CMS scored eight times in the second to take a 14-4 lead into the break.
Eleanor Raidt added two goals in the nightcap for the Athenas.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it battles Pomona-Pitzer in a 7 p.m. contest at Axelrood Pool.
