CMS Women's Water Polo Uses Balanced Offense for 15-6 Win over Occidental
LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Eleven different players scored goals, led by two apiece from Fiona Murphy, Grace Clark, Isabel Del Villar and Ka'imi Duncklee, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team earned a 15-6 road win at Occidental on Saturday.
With the win, CMS moves to 16-9 overall and 10-1 in SCIAC, clinching the second seed and the right to host a SCIAC Semifinal. Occidental slips to 2-24 overall and 1-10 in league play with the loss.
CMS scored five straight goals to end the first quarter and take a 6-1 lead with Clark sandwiching two of them around a goal from Jessi Beyer.
Occidental scored the first goal of the second quarter, which was answered by Cassandra Ruedy, and the Athenas closed out the half with a 3-0 run on goals from Del Villar, Murphy and Duncklee to take a 10-3 lead into intermission.
Mia Adsen, Kaitlyn Kong and Christina Kulick closed out the scoring for CMS in the fourth as they took a 15-6 victory.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Cal Lutheran for its regular season finale, before hosting a SCIAC Semifinal on April 26.
