CMS Women's Water Polo Breaks Open Close Game for 10-2 Win Over Whittier

CLAREMONT, Calif. - With the score just 1-1 with two minutes left in the half, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team scored on two straight possessions to start an 8-0 run as it took a 10-2 win over Whittier on Saturday at Axelrood Pool.

With the win, CMS improves to 13-8 overall and remains perfect in SCIAC at 7-0, while Whittier drops to 3-4 in league play with the loss. 

Natalie Stearns played the first half in goal and Mason Spencer played the second, with both goalies having identical lines of one goal allowed and three saves, while Mia Adsen added three steals to her team highs of two goals and two assists. 

Cooper McKenna and Grace Clark closed out the first half with goals to make it a 3-1 lead at the break, and Adsen started the second half with back-to-back goals. Caitlin Muñoz closed out the third quarter with another goal to make it 6-1.

McKenna, Clark, and Muñoz rattled off goals to start the fourth, and Cassandra Ruedy capped off the scoring with 1:15 left. 

CMS will be back in action for a big game at Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday in a battle of SCIAC unbeatens.
