CMS Women's Water Polo Falls to Pomona-Pitzer in One vs. Two Showdown

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Cooper McKenna and Christina Kulick each had two goals, but the top-ranked Pomona-Pitzer women's water polo team used a 7-0 run to take control and capture a 12-5 win over second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday evening at Axelrood Pool.

Pomona-Pitzer remains perfect in the SCIAC at 12-0 and clinches the top seed in the SCIAC Tournament, while CMS slips to 10-2 with the loss, both of which have come to the Sagehens.

Kulick scored twice 40 seconds apart in the game's opening minutes to give CMS 1-0 and 2-1 leads, but her second goal was the last the Athenas would score until McKenna found the net with 30 seconds left in the third quarter. In between, the Sagehens were able to score seven times, taking a 5-2 lead after the first, and a 7-2 lead into the half.

McKenna scored her second goal early in the fourth, and Maddy Menard added a late tally for the Athenas, but Pomona-Pitzer was able to maintain control in the second half to earn its second win over the Athenas, including an 11-8 win back in early March.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts La Verne for an 11 a.m. contest, which will also be Senior Day for the program's six seniors.
