
CMS Women's Water Polo Moves Up to No. 2 in Latest Coaches Poll
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team moved up one spot to No. 2 in the latest national rankings released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association on Wednesday.
CMS switched places with Cal Lutheran, which slipped from No. 2 to No. 3 after the Athenas pulled off a dramatic 8-7 win on Wednesday at Axelrood Pool. The Regals led 7-5 in the fourth quarter, before CMS closed on a 3-0 run, winning the game with just one second left on a goal from Cooper McKenna.
Christina Kulick had four of the CMS goals during the game to earn SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Cal Lutheran goalie Izzy De Souza had 17 saves to earn Defensive Player of the Week. Pomona-Pitzer remains in the No. 1 spot in the latest poll, while Whittier (which CMS defeated 9-8 with two seconds left on a goal from Mia Adsen) is fourth and Austin College is fifth.
CMS will be back in action this evening when it takes on Chapman (ranked No. 7) in another SCIAC contest, before co-hosting the Claremont Convergence on Friday and Saturday, with games against Siena, Azusa Pacific, La Salle and Conn College.
