Aldrete Earns First-Team ACWPC All-America Honors; Fry, Ayala Named Honorable Mention

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Aracelia Aldrete earned first-team All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, while Amelia Ayala and Anna Fry earned honorable mention distinction, the organization announced today.

Aldrete made the All-America first team for the first time in her career after capturing honorable mention honors as a sophomore and junior. She completed the abbreviated 2020 season with 11 goals and four assists on offense and 11 steals on defense. She had a hat trick in a win over Occidental and tallied two goals in a win over Villanova. She scored her 100th career goal last year against La Verne and ended up her four seasons with 113 goals in her CMS career.

Ayala had 13 goals and five assists in a shortened junior season, earning her second recognition from the ACWPC after taking second-team All-America honors last year. She scored four times against Sonoma State and had both Athena goals against nationally ranked UC Santa Barbara this spring. A year ago, she had 32 goals and 13 assists and she will head into her senior campaign next year with 75 career goals, looking to join Aldrete in the CMS 100-goal club.

Fry earned the first All-America honor of her career for the Athenas after leading the CMS defense. She had 20 steals on the year, while adding five goals and an assist from her defensive position. She scored twice against Bucknell and added another goal in a win over Villanova. She had her season high of three steals on three occasions, including in a Sixth Street matchup with Pomona-Pitzer when she led a defense that allowed only six goals in a 6-4 defeat.
