CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team will serve as one of the hosts of the 2020 Claremont Convergence Tournament, featuring 20 teams from around the country, this Friday and Saturday at Axelrood Pool.

CMS, Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne will each host 12 of the 36 matches that will be played over a span of just over 30 hours, beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday and concluding at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Action begins at the Axelrood Pool venue at 10 a.m. on Friday with Whittier vs. Fresno Pacific), and then at 9 a.m. on Saturday with Redlands vs. Sonoma State.

The Athenas will play in four of the matches at Axelrood, taking on UC Santa Barbara on Friday at 12:30 p.m. in its first match of the weekend, followed by Sonoma State at 4:15 p.m. On Saturday, CMS faces California Baptist at 11:30 a.m., before closing out with Villanova at 3:15 p.m.

CMS will be looking to bounce back from a narrow 6-4 defeat to Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday, in which it twice cut a three-goal lead down to one, but came up just short. Four different players accounted for the Athena goals, with Aracelia Aldrete scoring in the first half, Christina Kulick scoring in the third quarter to cut it to 3-2, and Alex Szymczak and Amelia Ayala scoring two straight goals in the fourth to make it a 5-4 game.
