Athenas keep Caltech scoreless

CLAREMONT, Calif., – The Athenas defense held strong as they shut out Caltech 10-0.  A strong first half gave the Athenas an 8-0 lead and they never looked back.  The Athenas improve to 8-14 overall and 5-0 in conference.

The Athena offense was clicking on all cylinders as they scored four goals in the first period led by Roxy Kiessling who led the Athenas with two goals.  In the second period the Athenas spread the scoring out as four different Athenas scored including Rose Koper, Ellen Perfect, Kiessling and Jessica Gaffney who scored for the second time.

In the second half Camille Zelinger and Erin McCarthy took care of the scoring for the Athenas as they each player scored in the third period to make the score 10-0.  Then Athenas didn't score in the fourth but they kept the defense up as they kept Caltech scoreless for their first shutout of the season.

CMS was led by Kiessling who scored three goals. Gaffney, who scored two goals, was the only other Athena to score more than one goal as the Athenas had seven different players score today.

The Athenas are back in action at Whittier College on April 8 at 7 p.m.
