Redlands Sends Athenas To Third Place Game At SCIAC Championships
PASADENA, Calif. - In a tightly contested game, Redlands topped
the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team 10-9 on Saturday
afternoon in the second round of the SCIAC Championships at
Pasadena City College. With the loss, CMS plays Occidental on
Sunday at 1 p.m. for third place. The last time CMS and Redlands
faced off, CMS got the one-score win but on Saturday Redlands was
able to pull out the win.
Jill Stein scored her last of four goals in the game at the 1:37
mark of the game to give Redlands the win. With 53 seconds left in
the third quarter senior utility Jeanne
Kelber tied the game at 6-6 for CMS (14-15). Redlands
then scored three-straight goals over a three minute stretch to
push its lead to 9-6, its largest of the game, with 6:15 to go in
the fourth quarter.
CMS ran off three-straight goals of its own capped off by a
score from freshman utility Rachel
Burgess with 2:56 left in the game to even the score
at 9-9. A minute and a half later Stein scored the game-winner for
Redlands.

Conner each had two scores to lead CMS, while Stein
had a game-high four scores for Redlands.
