Offense Goes Quiet In Second Half For Athenas In Loss At Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. –  All tied up at halftime, Pomona-Pitzer outscored the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team by five in the second half to earn a 12-7 win on Saturday morning at Pomona-Pitzer in the SCIAC regular season finale for both teams. CMS drops to 7-1 in SCIAC and 13-14 overall.

The game was tied 1-1 after the first quarter and 5-5 at halftime. Pomona-Pitzer then outscored CMS 4-1 in the third quarter to take a 9-6 lead which they would extend to 12-7 for the win.

CMS had a tough time scoring against Pomona-Pitzer goalie Sarah Tuggy who had 10 saves in the match. Junior utility Candace Filippelli and junior driver Alyssa Filippelli each had two scores to lead CMS. Sarah Westcott and Mahalia Prater-Fahey each had a game-high three goals for Pomona-Pitzer.

Next up for both teams is the SCIAC Tournament which runs April 26-28.
