CMS Volleyball Keeps Rolling with Straight-Set Win at Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team improved to 9-0 in SCIAC, all by straight sets, with a 25-17, 25-18, 25-15 win at Redlands on Friday evening.

Brenna Bell and Audrey Sawyer each had 12 kills in 17 attempts to lead the way for the Athenas' offense, which had one of its most efficient days of the year, hitting .434 as a team (52 kills and nine errors in 99 attempts).

With the win, CMS now stands at 15-3 overall on the season, as well as increasing its SCIAC win streak to 58 matches (52 regular season and six SCIAC Tournament) dating back to 2019, including the 9-0 start this fall. 

Jenna Holmes also had 10 kills for CMS as she continues to close in on the 1000-kill milestone, now standing at 975. Kurt Vlasich is also one win away from a milestone, as he how has 299 career victories, standing at 299-63 in his 11th season with the Athenas. 

Kelsey Polhemus added eight kills in 13 attempts for CMS, while Georgia McGovern had 38 assists.

CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it hosts Pomona-Pitzer for a 4 p.m. contest. The Sagehens are currently second in the SCIAC (9-2) and are the only SCIAC team to take a set off of the Athenas in the last two seasons, winning the first set at home a year ago before CMS came back for a 3-1 win.
