Georgia McGovern Reaches 2000 Assists in CMS Volleyball's Sweep of Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior setter Georgia McGovern had 42 assists, her career high for a three-set match, to reach 2000 in her career as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team earned its third straight SCIAC sweep to open league play, defeating Redlands 25-15, 25-13, 25-22 on Friday night at Roberts Pavilion.

With the win, the fifth-ranked Athenas improve to 9-3 on the season, including 3-0 in SCIAC play, while Redlands slips to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in conference.

McGovern came into the match needing 36 assists to hit the 2000 mark, and didn't figure to be able to hit it in a sweep, as her previous best in a three-set match was 34. However, she had 14 assists in all three sets to record 42 for the match and move to 2006 in her career, a career in which she lost her freshman season due to the pandemic.

She found lots of success feeding the middles in the win on Friday night, as Audrey Sawyer had nine kills in 12 attempts, Dani Beder had five kills in 10 attempts, and Solvej Eversoll had four kills in five attempts in the third set, including the one for match point. Lauren Parker had two kills in the third set as well, giving the four middles a combined 20 kills and only two errors in 32 attempts.

Jenna Holmes had a double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs, moving to 892 kills in her career, as she will be on milestone watch in October for the 1000-kill plateau.

CMS will be back in action tomorrow when it heads to Pomona-Pitzer for the first of two Sixth Street Rivalry matches this fall, which will begin at 4 p.m.
