Georgia McGovern to compete for England National Team in January

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior setter Georgia McGovern, who had a key role in making Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball by far the most efficient attacking team in the nation this fall, earned a callup to compete with the England Senior National Women's Volleyball Team at its upcoming tournament in January.

McGovern will join Team England for a training weekend after final exams on Dec. 17-18, and then compete at the Novotel Cup in Luxembourg from Jan. 6-8.

It won't be McGovern's first experience with the senior national team in England, as she earned her first callup at age 16. She also previously attended the Novotel Cup in 2020, helping England to a second-place finish, on the heels of being named the top setter at the Northern European Volleyball Association U19 Championships, earning a spot on the all-tournament dream team, the first English woman to earn that honor.

CMS finished the 2022 season with a 30-1 record, earning a No. 1 ranking for 10 weeks and finishing with the first undefeated regular season in program history. CMS hit .314 as a team, while the second-best percentage in Division III was Juniata at .272. The Athenas also led the country in kills per set and assists per set, with McGovern and senior Spencer Hagenbuch sharing the setter duties. In the one match where McGovern played all six rotations with Hagenbuch resting an injury, she had seven kills in 11 attempts to go with 34 assists in a 3-0 win over Redlands.

For her efforts, McGovern earned second-team AVCA All-America honors, as well as earning a spot on the All-West Region Team and first-team All-SCIAC honors.
