Summer Ellis Takes SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Honors for CMS Volleyball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Summer Ellis of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team earned the final SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the 2022 season, the league office announced today.

Ellis helped CMS to a 3-0 week, and a 26-0 regular season, by hitting .523 over three 3-0 sweeps. She began the week by hitting .800, with eight kills in 10 attempts, in a win over Whittier, and completed the three matches with a total of 24 kills and only one error.

Ellis raised her hitting percentage for the season to .404, which ranked No. 10 in the nation, with the other right-side hitter for the Athenas, Brenna Bell, in fourth at .416. As a team, CMS is hitting .317, which is 48 points higher than the second-best team in Division III (Northwestern at .279).

The Athenas have now had five different SCIAC weekly award winners this season, with Jenna Holmes and Bell earlier winning SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, and Dede Carranza and Georgia McGovern each taking the Specialist of the Week honor. Earlier today, Holmes was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Year, Carranza the Defensive Player of the Year, and Audrey Sawyer, McGovern and Bell were named to the first team, while Ellis was on the second team.

CMS will be back in action for the SCIAC Semifinals at Roberts Pavilion on Thursday night, when it hosts La Verne at 7 p.m.
