Dede Carranza Captures SCIAC Specialist of the Week Distinction

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore liberoDedeCarranza was named the SCIAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week for matches through Sunday, Sept. 11, the conference office announced today.

Carranza was named to the All-Tournament team at the East-West Battle this weekend, hosted by Emory, as the top-ranked CMS volleyball team defeated No. 7 Johns Hopkins, No. 2 Trinity and No. 14 Emory.

Carranza totaled 62 digs (5.64 per set) from her libero position, with a high of 26 in the Trinity win (6.50 per set), a tight battle that saw CMS drop the first set and take the lead with a 26-24 win in the third. She also had five service aces, three of which came against Emory.

With the three wins, CMS improved to 7-0 on the year, with five of the wins (Babson, NYU, Johns Hopkins, Trinity, Emory) coming against teams ranked in the top 25.

CMS will be back in action this weekend at the Cal Lu Fornia Invitational in Thousand Oaks, where it will meet UC Santa Cruz, Endicott and Colorado College, the sixth top-25 team in the Athenas' non-conference schedule.
