Kelsey Polhemus Becomes Fifth CMS Volleyball Player Honored by SCIAC

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Kelsey Polhemus was named the SCIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for matches through Sunday, Oct. 24, the league office announced today.

Polhemus had a big weekend as the Athenas took on three teams ranked in the top 15 nationally at the Midwest Classic, hosted by Calvin. She opened up the weekend with 10 kills and 11 blocks in a 3-1 win over No. 4 Hope, which was the most blocks for a CMS player under Head Coach Kurt Vlasich, who took over in 2012. Her 10 kills also came on only 16 attempts, and she had similar proficiency in a tournament-closing win over No. 14 Ohio Northern, when she had seven kills in 11 attempts, to go along with four blocks.

Polhemus becomes the fifth different CMS player to earn a SCIAC weekly honor this season. Melanie Williams has won the Offensive Player of the Week twice, and Jackie Jones has also won it once. Meanwhile, setter Georgia McGovern has also captured the SCIAC Specialist of the Week honor, as has libero Dede Carranza

In addition to the SCIAC honors, Jenna Holmes (Pacific Coast Classic) and Spencer Hagenbuch (Midwest Classic) have earned spots on All-Tournament teams this season, giving the Athenas a long list of different award winners.

CMS will be back in action on Tuesday night for a road match against Chapman, before its regular season home finale against Pomona-Pitzer on Friday at 7 p.m.
