Phoebe Madsen Earns SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Honors for CMS Volleyball

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior setter/right side hitter Phoebe Madsen earned the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Award for matches through Sunday, Oct. 13, the league office announced today.

Madsen earned the honor after leading CMS to a pair of 3-0 conference sweeps, defeating Occidental on Tuesday and Pomona-Pitzer on Friday. She was one kill shy of a triple-double in both matches, totaling nine kills, 10 digs and 19 assists in the Occidental win, and adding nine kills, 13 digs and 18 assists against the Sagehens.

In addition, Madsen did not have an attack error in either match, totaling 18 kills in 39 attempts for a .462 hitting percentage on the week. She also contributed five service aces, increasing her team-leading total to 37 this year.

Madsen becomes the fourth different Athena honored by the SCIAC this season. Junior middle hitter Melanie Moore captured the Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30 after helping CMS to a 3-0 week, senior outside hitter Amanda Walker captured it on Sept. 16 after hitting .591 in a win over No. 1 Emory, and senior libero Sarah Tritschler was named the Specialist of the Week on Sept. 2 after the season-opening weekend at the Pacific Coast Classic.

CMS is back in action tomorrow when it takes on Cal Lutheran for a 7 p.m. contest, the first of three matches in a big week that also includes a road trip to Whittier on Friday, and a matchup with first-place Chapman on Saturday at 4 p.m.
