Melanie Moore Wins SCIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior middle hitter Melanie Moore was named the SCIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for events through Sunday, Sept. 29, the league office announced today.

Moore helped CMS to a 3-0 week with wins over La Verne, Cal Lutheran and Whittier as the Athenas moved into a tie for first place with Chapman. She hit .377 on the week with 29 kills in 61 attempts, capping it off with 10 kills in only 15 attempts against Whittier for a .600 percentage.

In addition to her lofty hitting percentage, Moore also produced the match-clinching solo block in the fourth set of a 25-20, 25-21, 15-28, 27-25 win at Cal Lutheran on Friday night.

With her strong week, Moore raised her hitting percentage for the season to .314 and to .333 for her career. The current school record for career hitting percentage is .303, set by Tonya Icenogle from 2000-02.

CMS will be back in action on Tuesday night when it travels to Chapman for a head-to-head battle for first place in the SCIAC at 7 p.m., before returning home to face Caltech on Friday night at 7 p.m.
