CMS Volleyball to Host East-West Challenge on Friday and Saturday

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The defending national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team will serve as the host for the prestigious six-team East-West Challenge this Friday and Saturday at Roberts Pavilion.

The tournament field includes five teams currently ranked in the most recent AVCA Division III top 25 poll (released on Sept. 4), while the sixth (UT Dallas) is also receiving votes and is essentially ranked No. 28 in the nation. The Athenas come in with a 7-1 record and a No. 3 national ranking (up from No. 4 last week) after sweeping four matches at the Trinity Fall Classic over the weekend, including a 3-2 win over No. 5 Trinity. The tournament gets started on Friday at 10 a.m. with No. 15 Cal Lutheran facing No. 12 WashU. The Athenas will close out the Friday schedule with a 7 p.m. match against No. 6 Emory and then play twice on Saturday, starting the day at 10 a.m. against UT Dallas, and then wrapping up the tournament at 4:45 p.m. against WashU.
