Phoebe Madsen Earns SCIAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior setter Phoebe Madsen (CMC '20) was named the SCIAC Volleyball Specialist of the Week for matches through Sunday, Sept. 2, it was announced today by the conference office.

Madsen helped the CMS volleyball team to a 3-1 record at the season-opening Pacific Coast Classic, including wins over No. 9 Southwestern and No. 14 Carthage. She put up strong assist numbers as a setter, including 39 against No. 6 Johnson & Wales, 38 against Carthage and 33 in a five-set win over Brandeis.

But even more impressive than her assist totals was her all-around versatility, as she moved to outside hitter at times in order to give an injury-depleted Athenas team some attacking punch as well. In the Carthage win, her final stat line included 38 assists, 13 kills and 15 digs, easily reaching triple-double territory. She almost had another in the Brandeis win, but settled for eight kills to go along with 33 assists and 21 digs.

Madsen capped off her weekend with 21 assists, nine digs and eight kills in only three sets in a 3-0 win over Southwestern, the only match of the tournament that didn't go the full five sets. She hit .500 in the match with eight kills and one error in 14 attempts, after also hitting .407 in the Carthage win (13-2-27).

The Athenas will be back in action this weekend when they travel to San Antonio to take part in the Trinity University Invitational with four matches on Friday and Saturday.
