Arntson hits over .750 in 3-0 win
CLAREMONT, Calif. – Junior Margaux Arntson (CMC) played a flawless match and led the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Chapman University (25-21, 25-7, 25-13) on Tuesday night. Arntson hit .789 in the match with 15 kills.
Freshman setter Phoebe Madsen (CMC) assisted Arntson on 11 of her 15 kills in the match. In the first set, the pair connected on five occasions, three of which came at the end of the set to tee up junior Shelbi Stein (CMC) to make the final two kills of the set.
The second set saw the Athenas hit .500 while Chapman did not score two points in a row. CMS recorded five service aces: two by senior Natalie Creekmur (CMC), two by junior Mikena Werner (SC) and one by sophomore Hannah Grobisen (CMC). Creekmur ended up with five in the match.
Stein was involved in the first four points for CMS in the third set with three kills and an assisted block. Junior SCIAC Athlete of the Week Clara Madsen (CMC) continued to set Stein who took 14 swings in the set. By herself, Stein had almost half of the team's kills in the third set at 10.
CU's Kylie Cooke and Lindsey Johnson led with seven and six kills. Johnson ultimately hit .417 in the match.
CMS remains unbeaten and improves to 17-0 overall, 9-0 in SCIAC. The Athenas travel to Occidental on Saturday, Oct. 15 at 6 p.m.
