Athenas roll to 3-0 win over ULV

LA VERNE, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team remained undefeated in SCIAC play after the 3-0 defeat of La Verne (25-16, 25-18, 25-17) on Friday night. The Athenas were led by junior libero Mikena Werner (SCR) who had 22 digs in the match.

CMS jumped out to a 5-1 lead on a string of serves by junior Natalie Creekmur (CMC). Freshman Phoebe Madsen (CMC) assisted junior Margaux Arntson (CMC) for the final kill of the first set, setting up the Athenas to roll to the straight set victory.

Werner helped the Athenas to having almost 30 digs more than the Leopards. The defense also contributed 10 block assists as Kerkhof and junior Mariah Rigg (CMC) each had three.

Kelsi Robinson and Delany Lynch for La Verne had the most attack attempts combining for 60 but only recorded 13 kills. Head coach Kurt Vlasich commented that he was "happy to get a win against a tough team with a solid middle attack."

Next up for the AVCA ranked No. 2 CMS (11-0, 3-0 SCIAC) is the much-anticipated matchup against the No. 4 Cal Lutheran Regals (12-2, 3-0 SCIAC) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. at home in Roberts Pavilion.
