Cal Lu sweeps CMS in championship match of SCIAC Tournament

NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships Selection Show (Monday, Nov. 11 – 8 a.m. PST)

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Going for the program's first SCIAC Postseason Tournament championship, the No. 24 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team lost 3-0 to No. 3 Cal Lutheran in the championship match on Saturday evening at Gilbert Arena. Cal Lutheran won 25-17, 26-24, 25-14.

With the loss, CMS dropped to 24-6 on the season while Cal Lutheran improved to 30-1 and earned the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships. CMS now has to wait until Monday, Nov. 11 at 8 a.m. PST for the Selection Show to find out whether or not it gets an at-large, Pool C invite to the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championships which begin with Regionals on Nov. 15-16.

Cal Lutheran controlled both the first and third sets of the match on Saturday night. In the second set, CMS hung tight and nearly won the set. Unlike the semifinals against Pomona-Pitzer when CMS had multiple players in double figures in kills and digs, CMS managed just two players with 10 or more digs against Cal Lutheran.

Junior libero Megan Coleman led CMS with 13 digs while senior S Hilary Bruegl had 10 digs and 24 assists. Freshman OH Nicole Kerkhof, sophomore OH Audrey Breitwieser and junior OH Regina Mullen each had seven kills for CMS.

Kylie McLogan led Cal Lutheran with 21 kills and six digs while Allie Eason added 14 kills and 13 digs.

CMS managed a .174 hitting percentage on the night, below its season average.
