Successful day grounded in solid defense for Athenas



CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team beat Kenyon (3-0) and Susquahanna (3-0) in Saturday's double header. After a wild match on Friday night, the Athenas came out strong and notched two more wins.

Consistent defense and serving were the keys to the Athenas' success today after playing an intense five-set match the night before. Junior libero Megan Coleman continued to lead the Athenas's defense with 33 digs on the day. Sophomore Tanner Hoke undertook the vast majority of setting for CMS and totaled 71 assists. Freshman Nicole Kerkhof finished the day with an impressive 32 kills

CMS 3, Kenyon 0 (25-21, 25-19, 25-23)

CMS won the first two sets as Kenyon nipped right at their heels. In the third set, the Athenas came from being behind 19-16 to win 25-23.

CMS 3, Susquahanna 0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-19)

During the course of the match Susquahanna only went on four-two point runs. The Athenas scored the last four points of the first set and the last seven of the third all on Hoke's serve.
