No. 20 CMS Takes SCIAC Opener Over Whittier In Three

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team beat Whittier College in three games (25-12, 25-20, 25-23) on Tuesday night in Ducey Gymnasium. The 9-0 Athenas remain undefeated as they begin SCIAC play.

CMS took a commanding lead in the first set scoring the first four points. The Athenas improved upon this lead and took the game easily, 25-12.

In the second set, the Poets battled and stayed within four points but never led the Athenas. With her blocks and kills CMS freshman OH Nicole Kerkhof led the team to a 25-20 victory to put the Athenas up 2-0.

Outstanding performances by Senior S Hilary Bruegl and Kerkhof help the Athenas triumph over the Poets in the third set to end the match.  Kerkhof totaled 17 kills and Bruegl recorded 37 assists. Junior L Megan Coleman led the team with 16 digs.

The Athenas next play at Chapman on September 20^th at 7:30pm.
