CMS Volleyball Comes From Behind To Defeat Sagehens

CMS Women's Volleyball (11-4, 4-2 in SCIAC) defeated the Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens (9-6, 3-3 in SCIAC) on Tuesday evening three sets to one (23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-17).  Both teams were 3-2 in SCIAC play before the match and the Athena victory allowed CMS to move ahead of Pomona-Pitzer in SCIAC standings.

After narrowly losing the first set, the Athenas knew they had to pick up their game in order to come out on top.  CMS came out strong in the second set, hitting .317 with 16 kills. With each set the Athenas improved their play and were able to decisively silence the Sagehens in the fourth and final set, in which CMS hit .312 with 16 kills.  Emily Hudson (JR, South Pasadena) accumulated 22 kills, the most on either team.  Bennett Jones (FR, Monte Sereno) and Leanne Ringquist (SR, Ben Lomond) had three block assists each and Ringquist had the teams only solo block.  Kendra Huff (SR, Downey) led the defense with 22 digs, which was tied for the most on the court with Heidi Leonard of Pomona-Pitzer.  Shalynn Ho (SO, Mililani, HI) had 19 digs, helping the Athenas to accumulate a total of 99 digs in the match.

The Athenas will play Whittier on Friday, October 8th at Whittier at 7:30 PM.  In the last matchup between these teams earlier this season, CMS defeated the Poets in three straight sets.
