Pacific Coast Classic Day One

The CMS Volleyball team started the 2009 campaign on the right foot with a win over west region opponent Lewis and Clark College Friday afternoon in Ducey Gym. The Athenas started off a bit slow, the nerves of the season opener apparent. The team missed 3 serves and hit just .118 in a close 24-26 loss. Set two was a different story as the team settled into a rhythm early on and pulled ahead to a 25-13 win. Junior outside hitters, Allie Macy (Walnut, CA) and Jenna Suttmeier (Issaquah, WA) led the effort, notching ten kills, assisted by freshman setter, Taylor Jones (Scottsdale, AZ). Lewis and Clark battled back in the third and fourth sets before CMS pulled ahead in the closing points to win both, 25-21. Jones paced the Athenas offense with 45 assists. Macy and Suttmeier notched 15 and 14 kills, respectively, and libero Jessica Waggoner led both teams defensively with 21 digs. Sarah Hall led Lewis and Clark with 11 kills.
