Six CMS Women's Soccer Players Earn Academic All-District Distinction

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Laurel Ovenell, and juniors Emma Fogg, Kaitlyn Helfrich, Tori Holden, Annie McKinley and Ava Schmitt were named to the College Sports Communicators Division III Women's Soccer Academic All-District team, the organization announced this week.

By earning a spot on the all-district team, all six Athenas will be eligible for Academic All-America honors, which will be announced next week.

The CSC academic honors recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. The awards are open to sophomores and older, and require meeting minimum academic and athletics standards to be eligible.

All six of the Athenas honorees were regulars in the starting line-up, helping CMS to a 6-4-2 SCIAC record, which was good for third place in the conference.

Ovenell (environmental analysis) and Fogg (economics) attend Scripps College, while Helfrich (psychology and economics), Holden (economics/accounting), McKinley (literature and government) and Ava Schmitt (economics/accounting) all attend Claremont McKenna.

Helfrich, Holden and McKinley were first-team All-SCIAC selections this year, while Ovenell was on the second team. Fogg was an all-region selection as a sophomore.
