Laurel Ovenell Earns SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week Distinction for Athenas Soccer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior midfielder Laurel Ovenell earned the SCIAC Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Oct. 15, the conference office announced today.

Ovenell scored her first career goal for the game-winner in a 3-0 victory over Occidental on Wednesday, and then picked up an assist in a 3-0 win over La Verne on Saturday. She contributed at both ends in the La Verne win, clearing a ball off the line in the second half with the score still tied 1-0, before picking up her assist to give CMS an insurance goal 20 minutes later.

The award comes in a week when she was honored on Senior Day, as the only graduating senior on the Athenas this season. Her efforts helped CMS stretch its unbeaten streak to six games (5-0-1, all by shutout) and solidify its hold on third place, putting it on the cusp of clinching a tournament berth after an 0-3 start.

CMS will have an off day on Wednesday before returning to action with a road game at Chapman on Saturday at 11 a.m.
