CMS Women's Soccer Falls in Conference Opener at Cal Lutheran

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team struck early with a goal in just the third minute and went to capture a 3-1 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the SCIAC opener for both teams on Wednesday.

CMS won at Cal Lutheran last season in the SCIAC Semifinals 2-1, but this year, the Regals were able to get the early upper hand on a goal just 2:39 into the game.

Lightning struck twice after intermission, as Cal Lutheran extended the lead to 2-0 by scoring just 3:25 into the second half. Kateri Trujillo scored her second goal of the season for the Athenas in the 81st minute to break the shutout.

Sadie Brown had eight saves in goal for the Athenas, as Cal Lutheran had a narrow 12-8 edge in shots.

CMS will be back in action when it hosts its first conference home game on Saturday against Chapman at 7 p.m.
