CMS Women's Soccer Falls in SCIAC Championship Game

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The top-seeded Pomona-Pitzer women's soccer team scored an early goal in the fourth minute, and CMS wasn't able to recover as it dropped a 3-0 decision to the Sagehens in the SCIAC Championship game on Saturday at Pomona-Pitzer Soccer Stadium.

The loss drops CMS to 8-6-6, while Pomona-Pitzer improves to 12-2-3 and earns the SCIAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Amanda Khu scored at the 3:28 mark off an assist from Hannah Hong (who assisted all three Pomona-Pitzer goals). The Sagehens added an insurance goal in the 29th minute off a corner kick, and stretched it to 3-0 midway though the second half.

Riley Zitar had a bid for a first-half goal saved by goalie Naomi Meurice, and Jenna Rempel had a second-half shot cleared by a Sagehen defender.

CMS stayed relatively even in shots, with Pomona-Pitzer holding a 12-8 advantage, but the Sagehens were able to put 10 of them on target, including their three goals and seven others saved by CMS goalie Sadie Brown.

The Athenas reached the SCIAC Tournament for the first time since 2016, when they won the conference title, and moved on to the finals with a 2-1 win over Cal Lutheran.
