Emma Fogg Earns Second SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Sophomore center back Emma Fogg was named the SCIAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced today.

The Athenas clinched a SCIAC bid this week, and Fogg was a big reason why, as she picked up two assists in a 3-3 tie against Whittier on Wednesday. Needing a tie or a win to clinch, Fogg assisted on a goal from Kaitlyn Helfrich in the game's opening minutes to stake the Athenas to a 1-0 lead. After Whittier rallied from a 2-0 deficit to take the lead, Fogg played a perfect long ball to Helfrich with just over four minutes remaining, producing the tying goal that secured the postseason bid.

Fogg then returned to her more common role this season of anchoring a defense that has been tough to penetrate, leading CMS to a 1-0 win over Occidental in season finale on Saturday, in a game that saw the two Athenas goalies need to make only one save.

CMS will be back in action for the SCIAC Tournament on Wednesday when it travels to Cal Lutheran for a 7 p.m. contest. The winner of that game will face the winner between Pomona-Pitzer and Redlands, at Pomona-Pitzer if the Sagehens win, or hosting Redlands if the Bulldogs upset the top seed.
