McKenzie Emmons Takes SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - McKenzie Emmons of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team earned the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week Award for games through Sunday, Oct. 23, the league office announced today.

Emmons supplied the game's only goal as CMS picked up an important three road points in a 1-0 win over Caltech on Tuesday, coming forward to head in a corner kick. She also contributed to two shutouts, including a 1-0 win over UC Santa Cruz on Saturday as the Athenas added a regional win against a Banana Slugs team that came in 8-3-2.

The CMS defense has had six shutouts in its last seven games as the Athenas have surged up into the top four in the league standings heading into the final week. Emmons also becomes the third CMS defender honored by the SCIAC this season, with Annie McKinley and Emma Fogg previously earning Defensive Player of the Week distinction.

The Athenas are halfway to another possible shutout, as they will conclude a suspended game with Cal Lutheran this evening, in which CMS was up 1-0 on Oct. 15 at the half before the game was halted by lightning. If CMS can finish off the win, it will then travel to Whittier on Wednesday night, where a win would clinch a SCIAC bid even before its finale at home against Occidental on Saturday.
