Rhiann Holman Captures United Soccer Coaches Third-Team All-America Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Claremont-Mudd-Scripps senior midfielder Rhiann Holman earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III All-America third team, the organization announced today at its annual awards banquet.

Holman led CMS in scoring for the third year in a row, finishing her senior season with eight goals and seven assists for 23 points. Her point total tied her career high, which she set last season with 10 goals and three assists, while she finished her career with 25 goals and 14 assists for 64 points.

During the regular season, Holman had two of the most important goals of the year to help the Athenas earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament. She had the game's only goal in a 1-0 win over Pacific Lutheran, which went on to win 16 games in a row after falling to the Athenas, earning the Northwest Conference title. She also had the only goal in a 1-0 win over Cal Lutheran, which gave CMS another quality win on its resume.

Once CMS earned the bid, the Athenas went on to match the deepest NCAA Tournament run in program history (along with 2008), reaching the Round of 16 with a regional title by beating Emory 1-0 and Cal Lutheran 4-2 on penalty kicks. The Athenas then battled No. 3 WashU the whole way in the Round of 16, taking a 1-0 second-half lead before falling 2-1 in overtime.

Holman also picked up her second career hat trick during the regular season, picking up three goals in a 5-0 road win over Caltech. She also assisted on the only Athena goals in a 1-0 win over Redlands and a 1-1 tie with Cal Lutheran.

Holman becomes the first All-American for the CMS women's soccer program since Laura Hagen picked up third-team honors in 2010 (after earning second-team honors in 2009). Holman is the sixth All-American in program history overall, joining Ashley Green (2007), Camilla Friedman-Gerlicz (2008, 2009), Sarah Blavet (2008) Giselle Galanto (2008) and Hagen.
