CMS Soccer Teams Both Earn Team Academic Honors from United Soccer Coaches

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's and men's soccer teams were both honored by the United Soccer Coaches for their team academic performances during the 2018-19 academic year, the organization announced on Thursday.

A total of 992 teams in all three divisions (345 men, 647 women) were honored with a United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for having a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. CMS was one of only 258 programs to have both of its teams honored.

The CMS soccer programs have had strong success on the field over the last two years as well, combining for 35 wins with only 11 losses (and nine ties). The Stags won the regular season SCIAC title with a 15-2-1 record last year and are 7-2-1 thus far in 2019, while the Athenas are 5-1-3 so far this year, giving the teams a combined 12-3-4 record in the early going.

The Athenas will be in action at home tomorrow when they take on Whittier for a 7 p.m. contest, while the Stags travel to La Verne for a 7 p.m. game. Both teams then return home next week next week to host Pomona-Pitzer, with the Athenas meeting their neighborhood rivals on Wednesday night and the Stags playing the Sagehens on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m.
