Sarah Malott Named Second-Team All-Region by United Soccer Coaches

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior midfielder Sarah Malott of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's soccer team earned a spot on the United Soccer Coaches Division III All-West Region Second Team, the organization announced this week.

Malott earned the honor after a strong season as a defensive midfielder on the Athenas. Her efforts helped CMS to 11 shutouts in 17 games on the year, as well as a stingy 0.55 goals against average. She also picked up two assists, including one in a key win at first-place Redlands in the final week of the regular season to keep CMS in the SCIAC playoff hunt.

Over her career, Malott had eight goals and six assists, and started in 57 of the 59 games over her final three seasons. Her five goals as a junior, including a game-winner at Whittier, tied her for team-high honors, while her three goals and two assists as a sophomore helped CMS to a 17-6-1 record, a SCIAC Tournament title, and an appearance in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She had an assist in the SCIAC Championship game win over Chapman.

CMS finished the 2018 season with an 8-5-4 overall record and a 6-4-4 mark in SCIAC play. Over Malott's four seasons, the Athenas had a 27-14-11 SCIAC record.

Malott becomes the first CMS women's soccer player to be honored by the United Soccer Coaches since Jacey Coniff, Amy Johnson and Laynee Laube were all second-team selections in 2016.
