Women's Soccer Earns First Win

Less than 24 hours after a heartbreaking last minute loss to Wheaton, the Athenas soccer team came back to beat University of Wisconsin-La Crosse 1-0.

CMS dominated possession in the first half, creating nine shots and putting six of those on frame. Madi Shove put one of her shots in at the 21:15 mark of the half. CMS continued to create opportunities, but could not finish another one and the half ended 1-0.  La Crosse battled back in the second half and the momentum shifted slightly. The game was back and forth with no team being able to possess well. Rain fell most of the game and the accumulation of water affected the passing. After not generating a shot in the first half, La Crosse created several dangerous opportunities, but the Athena defense stood strong and earned their first shut out of the year. The game ended 1-0.

The Athenas are back on the field Saturday, Sept. 8th at 1:00 pm for their home opener at Pritzlaff Field. They then open conference play at home on Wednesday, Sept. 12th against Pomona-Pitzer.
