Minturn, Ryan Win Postseason SCIAC Honors for CMS Women's Lacrosse, Eight Named All-League

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Grace Minturn was named the SCIAC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Athlete of the Year, and Julia Ryan earned the Newcomer of the Year Award in a vote of the league's coaches, the conference office announced today.

A total of eight Athenas were honored on the All-SCIAC teams, with Minturn and Ryan joined on the first team by Natalie Teare and Cate Lewison, while Taylor Daetz, Paige Morgan, Catherine Murphy and Amelia Ulmer earned spots on the second team. 

Minturn led the Athenas in both goals (46) and points (65) this season, as part of an offense that ranks second in the nation in goals per game (18.7). She had multiple goals in 14 of 17 games, including six games with four goals, and four games with three, and enters postseason play with multiple goals in each of her last 10 contests. 

Ryan had 17 goals and 17 assists for the Athenas this season and had a huge impact on draw controls, where she collected over 10 a game (178 in 17 games) to go along with 25 ground balls. Her 10.47 draw controls per game ranks third in the nation heading into the SCIAC Tournament, and she has scored a goal in 15 of 17 contests.

Lewison was the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year last year, and has 33 goals and 17 assists this spring, to go along with 49 ground balls, 24 caused turnovers, and 34 draw controls. 

Teare has anchored a defense that has allowed eight goals per game, ranking 26th in the nation. She has 31 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers, and has added eight goals to the offensive attack this season when coming forward to play in the midfield. 

Daetz began the year on the CMS defense, but has since been a two-way player in the midfield, and has tallies 21 goals, 15 assists, and 15 caused turnovers. Morgan contributed 23 goals and 16 assists during the regular season, as well as 47 draw controls. Murphy finished the season with 37 goals to tie for second on the team, while adding 17 ground balls, while Ulmer also had 37 goals, as well as 17 assists.
