
CMS Women's Lacrosse Pulls Away in Second Half for 22-7 Win over Chapman
ORANGE, Calif. - Catherine Murphy and Grace Minturn each scored four goals, Paige Morgan had three goals and three assists, and Kendall Chapko had four saves in the second half without allowing a goal as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season with a 22-7 win at Chapman on Saturday.
The two teams will meet again on Wednesday at CMS in the SCIAC Semifinals, after CMS earned the second seed on the strength of a 10-2 SCIAC record, while Chapman will be the third seed after finishing 7-5.
Chapman got the upper hand early with a 4-1 lead, before CMS closed out the first quarter on a 4-0 run, taking its first lead on a goal from Amelia Ulmer with five seconds left to make the score 5-4.
Morgan started the second quarter with her second goal, which was followed by a goal from Minturn to make it 7-4. Hannah Conte gave CMS a 10-6 advantage late in the half, but the Panthers closed out the first half with a goal to make it 10-7.
CMS then took control in the second half, finishing out the game with 12 unanswered goals. Murphy had two goals in a 7-0 second quarter, and five different players scored in the fourth.
Cate Lewison, Conte, and Taylor Daetz each had two goals, with Lewison adding a team-high three caused turnovers and four ground balls. Julia Ryan had nine draw controls.
The CMS-Chapman winner will advance to Saturday's SCIAC Championship against either top-seeded Pomona-Pitzer or fourth-seeded Occidental.
