CMS Women's Lacrosse Drops Road Decision to Chicago
CHICAGO, Ill. - Grace Minturn had four goals, and Catherine Murphy added three, but the Chicago women's lacrosse team was able to take control of the game early and capture a 21-12 win over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a non-conference game on Sunday morning.
Both teams were receiving votes in the latest IWLCA coaches poll, as Chicago improves to 9-4 win the win, while the Athenas slip to 10-5.
The Maroons scored the first four goals before CMS was able to break the ice with back-to-back goals from Murphy and Paige Morgan. Chicago closed out the first with three straight goals, and then stretched it to a 6-0 with the first three goals of the second to get the lead to 10-2.
Minturn and Julia Ryan scored consecutive goals to close the gap to 10-4, and the Minturn and Taylor Daetz scored two straight to make it a 13-7 contest, but Chicago scored the final goal of the half to take a 14-7 lead into the break, and then stretched it to 21-8 in the third.
Lyla Johnston had 11 saves in goal for CMS in just over 30 minutes while allowing eight goals. Cate Lewison hed CMS with two caused turnovers and three ground balls, while Ryan and Morgan each had a team-high seven draw controls.
CMS will be back in action on Wednesday night when it hosts Occidental for a 7 p.m. contest, before closing out the regular season at Chapman on Saturday. A win over Occidental would secure home field advantage for the SCIAC Semifinals on May 1.
