CMS Women's Lacrosse Cruises to Home Win over Whittier

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Amelia Ulmer had five goals and two assists, and Grace Minturn added four goals and two assists, as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team coasted to a 26-3 win over Whittier on Wednesday evening at Zinda Field.

With the win, CMS moves to 9-3 overall and 7-1 in the SCIAC, while Whittier slips to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the SCIAC with the loss.

A total of 11 different players scored for CMS, which improved on its nation's leading goals per game average (18.3 per game coming in) despite not having a single individual ranked in the top 200. Stella Hansot and Hannah Conte each had hat tricks, while Cate Lewison, Catherine Murphy, Taylor Daetz and Avery Monahan each scored twice.

Julia Ryan had 16 draw controls, to go along with a goal and three assists, improving her average of 10.5 per game, which ranked fourth in the country coming into the contest.

CMS led 12-0 after the first quarter, and ended up outshooting Whittier 47-5 for the game, due largely to its defensive pressure, which forced the Poets into just four successful clears in 21 attempts. The Athenas also won 27 of the 30 draw controls.

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it hosts Redlands for a 1 p.m. contest.
