Balanced Attack Leads CMS Women's Lacrosse to 21-9 Win over Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team opened the game on a 6-0 run, then added a 5-0 run and a 7-0 run as it captured a 21-9 win at Redlands on Wednesday evening at Farquhar Field.

With the win, CMS improves to 6-2 on the year and 5-1 in the SCIAC as it hits the midway point of the conference schedule in second place. Redlands falls to 5-5 overall and 2-4 in league play.

The Athenas had a balanced offense, with Grace Minturn, Lily Bishop and Amelia Ulmer each scoring three times, and Avery Monahan, Paige Morgan and Stella Hansot scoring twice.

CMS scored six times in the game's first 7:08 to jump out to a 6-0 lead and seize control early. Ulmer started the scoring 31 seconds in off a feed from Taylor Daetz, and also ended the run off a feed from Morgan. In between, Minturn scored twice and Morgan and Catherine Murphy also added goals.

After Redlands finally got on the board, CMS scored the next five goals to pull ahead 11-1 at the 13:03 mark of the second quarter. Cate Lewison and Julia Ryan started the run with goals, Minturn and Maggie Griffis followed with goals to close out the first quarter, and Ulmer scored her third to start the second quarter.

The score was 12-4 midway through the second, when CMS went on a 7-0 run spanning both halves. Bishop scored two goals in a 4-0 run to close the half, the second coming with four seconds left off a feed from Ainsley Basic, who also scored during the run. Monahan, Hansot and Annie Parizeau started the second half with goals to give CMS its largest lead at 19-4.

The Athenas finished with a 35-14 edge in shots on the day. Minturn had a team-high three assists to go with her three goals, while Morgan and Ryan each had two.

CMS will be back in action in Colorado over the weekend, playing a neutral site game against DePauw on Friday, and then a road game against host Colorado College on Sunday.
