CMS Women's Lacrosse Rolls to Second Straight Lopsided Win for Opening Week

WHITTIER, Calif. - Stella Hansot scored five goals and Grace Minturn had four as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's lacrosse team earned a 25-2 win at Whittier on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, CMS moves to 2-0 on the young season, after also defeating Cal Lutheran 23-1 on Wednesday, beginning the season by outscoring its two opponents 48-3. 

The Athenas were dominant in all aspects of the game, outshooting Whittier 42-4 and picking up 31 ground balls compared to five for the Poets. 

Minturn had a hat trick before the game was five minutes old, scoring three goals around one from Hannah Conte to stake CMS to a 4-0 lead. After Whittier scored its first goal of the game, Amelia Ulmer scored twice around a Catherine Murphy goal to make it 7-1 with 6:53 left in the first quarter. 

Hansot then netted her first three goals of the game, around one from Cate Lewison to make it 11-1 after the end of the first quarter, and the Athenas were able to cruise from there. 

Avery Morgan scored two goals in the second quarter, and Paige Morgan, Lily Bishop and Sarah Press added tallies as well. Natalie Teare scored twice in the third quarter, and Julia Ryan capped off the scoring in the fourth. 

CMS will be back in action on Saturday for a big home matchup with fellow unbeaten Pomona-Pitzer at 1 p.m.
